In England there is a fairly common Surname Herbert. However in the
olden
days, when people were unable to write & spell, and when the spoken
word
was interpreted differently by different people, one finds several
spellings
of the same name. For Susannah the name (really Herbert) was spelt
Herbott
in the parish register.
However it may be that the surname has been spelt that way for several
generations,
but be aware that it may change!
